The Arab Revolt Centenary

To mark the centenary of the Arab Revolt, in 2014 the T. E. Lawrence Society set out on an exciting and ambitious journey following Lawrence’s activities in the war through an almost daily blog drawing on his diaries, letters and secret wartime reports, as well as excerpts from his book Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Since we embarked on the project, hundreds of people have been coming back to read each day’s instalment.

In tracing Lawrence’s steps, the Society is fortunate to have access to a unique resource – T. E. Lawrence: A Brief Chronology – compiled by the late Ronald Knight. This scholarly work is not a biography but a list of Lawrence’s activities, almost day by day throughout his life, drawn from known sources. Ronald, who served as our chairman between 1986-90, donated us his copyright in the Chronology, and we are privileged to be able to draw on it as we follow Lawrence in the desert campaign.

Our blog has now moved to Facebook where you can follow Lawrence’s adventures at www.facebook.com/lawrenceswar. You can also scroll back through the Facebook blog to see all posts published since Lawrence set out on his first visit to the Hejaz in October 1916.

As Lawrence and the Arabs embark on the final few months of their journey towards Damascus, make sure you don’t miss the exciting climax to this centenary project! Follow Lawrence at www.facebook.com/lawrenceswar
