Pole Hill, The Cloister and Bancroft’s School visit, Saturday 21st April

Society members are invited to take a tour around Chingford, Woodford and Epping Forest, on the borders of NE London and Essex, to visit three of the locations associated with the friendship between T. E. Lawrence and Vyvyan Richards. Pole Hill near Chingford was the location of the wooden ‘Cloister’, owned by Vyvyan Richards and often visited by Lawrence. T E Lawrence as Aircraftsman Shaw came to Northwich in March 1934 with two colleagues to supervise the fitting out and sea trials of a small auxiliary supply ship for the Air Ministry.  This ship was built at Yarwood’s Boat Yard on the River Weaver in Northwich.  Shaw and his colleagues stayed for three weeks at the Crown & Anchor Hotel in the town centre.
